Membership Issues

1. The IAAP and the recognised national associations are associations of individuals who are pharmacists and who pursue the purpose of furthering the professionalism of anthroposophic pharmacists worldwide.

2. The idea of a professional pharmacists association, at both a national and international level, is that it can unequivocally be seen to represent professional anthroposophic pharmacists, especially in the outside world of conventional pharmacists, legislators and educational establishments. From the international perspective, it will be very important in the future for the IAAP, if and when challenged, to be able without hesitation, to demonstrate that the IAAP is comprised of associations, all of whom have professionally recognised pharmacists as their core membership.

3. As Anthroposophic Pharmacy is a recently established science there will be countries with few anthroposophic pharmacists. It is firm intention of the IAAP to encourage the formation of national associations in as may countries as is possible and certainly any country with more than four anthroposophic pharmacists should be encouraged to set up their own association. However, where there are less than four anthroposophic pharmacists, they should be encouraged to participate in a recognised national association, possibly forming a sub-association of a recognised national association and where the individual pharmacist meets the minimum criteria they should be offered membership rights.
For anthroposophic pharmacists from countries with less than four of such professionals the IAAP offers the possibility to join the IAAP as an “Individual Member.”.since 2007

4. There is no doubt that there are non-pharmacists who have made and will continue to make significant contributions to the overall state of anthroposophic medicine/pharmacy.
National associations can offer to such contributors different forms of liaison, e.g. as Associates with adequate tasks within a scientific working group or the status of Honorary membership. With regard to Honorary Members, the IAAP guidelines state that such Members - are at the discretion of the country board - they must be elected by a unanimous board decision and they should be few in number.

5. IAAP Board, Participants

In order for the IAAP and the country associations to be accepted as a Professional Association of Pharmacists, it is imperative that it is seen to be carried by professional pharmacists and also to be seen as completely independent of the anthroposophic medicines manufacturers influence. It is therefore proposed that the Board should be mainly comprised of Pharmacist Members who represent their individual country associations.
